I’ve been on a medication I get almost no side effects from for a bit over 2 months now, it’s smooth sailing it seems, swimming around in gentle quiet sanity. I’ve noticed I am still a tad moody at times, which is something quite separate to what my medication is aimed at fixing. shall just keep an eye on it for now I suppose.

it’s a very odd thing to think back and remember things that happened during psychosis. I very clearly remember my arm changing colour and texture to a bright green  while someone took my blood pressure in hospital. it’s pretty funny the sorts of things your brain decides to run away with in this state, I think my arm changing colour helped inform one of my delusions that I was indeed some kind of cartoon character who didn’t exist within a real world at all. fun times…

I’m currently prescribed to 2 antipsychotic meds at once.individually one of them makes me sleep in all day every day, and the other disrupts my sleep if I take it by itself. so the logic must be that if I take both they will cancel each others side effects out.I’m really not convinced though, and would generally prefer to be less medicated, so I’ve opted to just keep taking the meds that disrupt my sleep slightly, and skip the ones that make it impossible to be awake before 2pm. I’m still getting enough antipsychotic from that one dose I’m fairly sure so things should be alright.blah, I wish I had my meds sorted by now, but it seems like an almost never ending trial of tweaks and changes.

some say the medication is keeping me sane, some say it’s the extra sleep and food.but it’s the hat I tell you ! the hat !

Apparently I’ll get increasingly more awesome as each day passes until I die from it.I started writing this comic as a creative outlet for my thoughts relating to the ‘illness’ I have had to start dealing with since july this year. for months now I’ve talked to doctors, case workers, psychologists. Most of the time they have just talked about staying on my medication, asked me how I’m feeling, sent me on my way.I have no clear diagnosis though, no big picture answer to what happened and what I may still have to deal with further down the track. So I’m naming it. it’s awesome cancer, I’m stuck with it, and I plan on laughing at it as often as possible.

in july of 2007 I experienced a case of psychosis, I was in hospital for 2 weeks, and am now taking daily antipsychotic medication as a preventative measure in case of a relapse. This blog is a place where I’ll throw my thoughts, memories and opinions about the experience. I haven’t been officially diagnosed with a long term mental illness, so for now I’m assuming I have awesome cancer, it’s as good a guess as any. I hope you enjoy my occasional comics.
